Beta Tester Program

The Beta Tester Program gives a small, hand-picked set of servers the Nightly release channel, a private feedback panel, and the Beta Tester rank. It is invite only. You cannot apply, and you cannot switch to Nightly on your own.

How servers are chosen

There are two paths in, and both end with a human decision:
  1. Automatic nomination. Once a day MurFFy scores every server it is in — member count, message activity, unique active members, command usage and how long the bot has been there — and puts the strongest candidates in a review queue. Nothing is sent automatically.
  2. Hand-picked. The team can invite any server directly.
Either way, a staff member approves the invite before anything reaches you. Servers below a minimum size, or with the bot added very recently, are never auto-nominated.

Getting the invite

The invite arrives as a direct message to the server owner. If the owner has DMs closed, it is posted in the server’s system channel instead. The message links to a page showing what the program gives you, what it expects, and an Accept / Decline choice. Invites expire if left unanswered. Accepting requires the Manage Server permission.

What you get

  • The Nightly release channel — new features reach your server before anyone else
  • A Beta panel in your dashboard for reporting bugs, ideas, UX problems and performance issues
  • The Beta Tester badge on your MurFFy profile, plus the tester role on our support server
Anyone on your server with Manage Server who submits feedback earns the rank too, not just the person who accepted.

What we expect

This is the part that makes the program mean something. Your server needs a minimum amount of feedback in a rolling window to keep its access. Bugs, ideas and rough edges all count. The Beta panel shows your current progress and the renewal date.
  • Quota met at renewal → access extends automatically
  • Quota not met → you get a warning DM before expiry, and if nothing changes the server returns to its previous release channel
Losing access this way is not a punishment and it is not permanent — you keep the Beta Tester badge, and the server can be nominated again later. A server the team removes manually is different: it stops being auto-nominated, and only a direct invite from the team can bring it back. Staff can mark a low-effort report as not counting toward the quota.

Sending feedback

Open Dashboard → Beta. Pick what kind of report it is, optionally tag which feature it concerns, then write a summary and the details — what happened, what you expected, and how to reproduce it. There is a short cooldown between reports. Your history, its triage status and any reply from the team are all visible on the same page.

Leaving

Decline the invite, or ask the team to remove your server. On removal the release channel returns to what it was before.
